Avoiding Lee Zii Jia's Case Again, BAM Asked to Open Player Contracts

Malaysian sports observer, Dr. Pekan Ramli asked the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to open player contracts to the public so that the Lee Zii Jia case does not repeat itself.
Pekan thinks that BAM can avoid criticism if they open player contracts to the public.

"Currently, we all don't know the details of Lee Zii Jia's contract with BAM because it was never made public."

"BAM should publicly announce the contracts that bind them to the players so that they can avoid criticism if something like this happens again," said Pekan as quoted by the New Straits Times.

Last week described contracts as commonplace in the world of sport, as well as in the general public.

"For example, in football clubs are compensated when the player they coach joins another team."

"Even students from government scholarships are required to serve for a certain period of time after graduation. They can leave [before the contract expires], but must pay a certain amount of compensation," said Pekan.

Lee Zii Jia and BAM themselves have reached an agreement. Lee Zii Jia was allowed by BAM to play as a professional player. An official announcement regarding the form of BAM's agreement with Lee Zii Jia will be announced next week.

Previously, Lee Zii Jia decided to leave the Malaysian national training and wanted to compose and design his own program. BAM then reacted by giving Lee Zii Jia a two-year ban.

After the decision, BAM received a lot of criticism, both from Malaysians and a number of world badminton players.
