Bales entered this season with a record of 72-30 as of last season, and his 22-4 (9-0 in the Mid Eastern Conference) mark as his best to date. The Vikings lost two key contributors with the departure of Mallory Cross and Abby Thornburgh of that team, however, so Bales team was charged this season with replacing their 14.5 points, 6.8 rebounding and 5.4 assists per game.

But Blue River still has senior center Ally Madden, one of the area's best interior players Sharpshooting junior Maci Chamberlin as well as solid base around them that will make another tournament run. While four consecutive titles in the sectional championship would set a school record, the Vikings still have a long way to go towards becoming a clear postseason team.

"I don't know because we're not yet ready to expand. I'm hoping we'll become an organization that is capable of doing that. I don't believe that we're quite there yet," Bales said of the team's chances of winning being able to win a sectional championship. "We've to work on learning be better at defending ... make sure not to commit the mistakes that don't have to be forced cheap mut coins. This means we have some work to do. And certainly (a the sectional titles) is where we hope to get."
